The Color of Compromise

Thursdays at 10:00 am beginning April 28.
Epworth Small Dining Room

The Color of Compromise takes you on a historical, sociological, and religious journey: from America’s early colonial days through slavery and the Civil War. The book covers the tragedy of Jim Crow laws, the victories of the Civil Rights era, and the strides of today’s Black Lives Matter movement. The United Methodist Church recommends this book for pastors and other faith leaders, students, non-students, book clubs, small group studies, history lovers, and all lifelong learners. The Color of Compromise is a call from a place of love and desire to fight for a more racially unified church that no longer compromises what the Bible teaches about human dignity and equality.

The book may be purchased at
This will be an 11-week study led by members of the Justice and Reconciliation Group.

Sunday School

 School Class

9:00 – 9:40 am, Church Library (Oxford building).

The class format will be group discussion of weekly readings from The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning along with select passages of scripture.

Manning tells us, “The Ragamuffin Gospel was written for the bedraggled, beat-up, and the burnt out, … for the sorely burdened who are shifting the the heavy suitcase from one hand to the other, … for the inconsistent, unsteady disciples whose cheese is falling of their crackers,… for earthen vessels who shuffle along on feet of clay, … for the bent and the bruised who feel that their lives are a grave disappointment to God, … for smart people who know they are stupid and honest disciples who admit they are scalawags.”

If this is where you are in your spiritual journey, or if you are just curious as to who we might be… come join us.  Books are available for loan or for $12.00 purchase. (Correct change, checks made payable to Aldersgate UMC, or online credit/debit payment).
