Every Step a Prayer (outdoor class)

It’s common knowledge that walking benefits your physical health. But have you considered that walking is good for your soul? Every Step a Prayer explores the history of walking as a spiritual practice and introduces you to several methods of walking meditation and prayer. Thomas Hawkins provides a new look at the way we walk together as the people of God in worship, in mission projects, and for social justice. He invites you to experience walking not only as an activity you do for health, leisure, or transportation but as a way to grow closer to God. $12.00 to purchase a book in the church office (check or correct change).  This class will meet at the fire pit in front of the Epworth Building.  Bring comfortable walking shoes and water to drink.   This class will be modified for all walking needs and health conditions.

All the Good: A Wesleyan Way of Christmas

Go on an Advent journey guided by the practices in John Wesley’s means of grace. The season of Advent offers time and space for Christians to prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ at Christmas through reflecting on the story of salvation. In All the Good: A Wesleyan Way of Christmas, a group of diverse Wesleyan scholars will take you on an Advent journey guided by the practices in John Wesley’s means of grace. John Wesley’s emphasis upon practices of piety and mercy—or good works—drew from the larger Christian tradition. Such practices are often referred to as means of grace. Each chapter guides participants through one of the four weeks of Advent by reflecting on biblical passages in light of an aspect of Wesleyan means of grace highlighted by illustrations and stories. $12.00 to purchase a book in the church office (check or correct change).

The class will meet in the Small Dining Room of the Epworth building.  Current Aldersgate COVID-19 protocols will be observed.

Songs of the Faithful: Studies in Psalms

The book of Psalms contains one hundred-fifty prayers, songs, liturgies, and poems that are divided into five smaller books. The Psalms displays the highs and lows of the life of faith. This study, written by Joana Elsie Brown takes six big questions based in the text and challenges participants to explore this complex book thoughtfully together: Psalm 1: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood – Which one will I take? Psalm 51: I have sunk so low – Is there help for me? Psalm 113: You have lifted me up – and I’m thankful. Psalm 146: What does it mean to place all your trust in the Lord? Psalm 37: Listen to your elders. Psalm 111: Look at all the wondrous deeds God has done!

$8.00 to purchase a book in the church office (check or correct change).

The class will meet in the Fellowship Class (Wesley Building).  Current Aldersgate COVID-19 protocols will be observed.

Wednesdays at 6:00 PM with Pastor Randy: January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9, 16.

Hebrews: Grace and Gratitude

The Book of Hebrews helps us see the connection between God’s grace in our lives and the call to invest ourselves in God’s mission in the world. In doing so, we express gratitude for the salvation we have received and respond to God’s grace by being faithful to the One who delivers us. In Hebrews: Grace and Gratitude, New Testament scholar David deSilva takes you through a study of Hebrews, tracing the themes of grace and gratitude through this unique New Testament book. In the Book of Hebrews, you will discover a bold perspective on who Jesus is and what he has done, as well as a powerful reflection on the meaning and significance of his death and resurrection in light of the Old Testament. As you read and study this letter, you will receive a deeper appreciation for the salvation we have received through Christ and hear afresh God’s call to a life of gratitude and faithfulness. $12.00 to purchase a book in the church office (check or correct change).

The class will meet in the Small Dining Room (Epworth  Building).  Current Aldersgate COVID-19 protocols will be observed.
